Parts of speech:
As we discussed about the sentence and words with different aspects we called them as parts of speech.
1. NOUN : A noun is a naming word. It indicates the name of a person, place or thing. NOUN implies that it is the place of human beings, of objects, and of animals, of weeks, of rivers, of seas.Indicates names.EXAMPLE:
1. JAWAHARLAL NEHRU was the first PRIME MINISTER of INDIA.
2. THE HIMALAYAS are to the north of INDIA.
3. MADRAS is a lovely city.
4. AKBAR was a great EMPEROR.
2. PRONOUN:
A PRONOUN is a word used instead of a NOUN.
Example:
1. Sita is a young girl.
2. She sings songs.
3. They are liked by one and all.
SITA is a noun in the above sentences. But the word 'She' in the second sentence is a pronoun. 'She' is used instead of the (Sita) noun. Similarly in the third sentence 'They' are replaced by the word 'Songs' .
3. VERB:
A Verb is a word which expresses what the subject of the sentence is, or does, or has, or what is done to it. VERB is all about expressing a task or status.
Example:
1. MURTY teaches science.
2. He has taught the subject for twenty years.
3. He is an efficient teacher.
4. The pen is on the table.
The first two sentences deal with work. The status is stated in three of the four sentences.
4. ADJECTIVE :
An adjective is a word which qualifies a noun.
Example:
1. She wears black shoes.
2. I saw a white horse.
3. He played a nice game.
4. She spoke for one hour.
5.ADVERB:
An Adverb is a word which modifies a verb or an adjective or another adverb. ADVERB is the name given to a word that expands the meaning of either a verb, an adjective, or another adjective.
EXAMPLE:
1. The horse runs quickly.
2. He is sure to come today.
3. America is a very rich country.
4. She worked out the problem quite correctly.
6.PREPOSITION:
Pre means BEFORE, Position means PLACE. PREPARATION means the word "That which is placed before". It is usually not preceded by a NOUN or a PRONOUN. It refers to the relationship between the preceding word and the subsequent word.
A preposition is a word which is placed before a noun or pronoun to show the relationship between a person, place or thing.
EXAMPLE:
1. The book is on the table.
2. The boy ran away with the umbrella.
In the first sentence above the relationship of the book to the table is known by the word 'ON'.
In the second sentence the umbrella for the child (BOY).
7.CONJUNCTION:
A conjunction is a word which joins words or group of words (phrases) or sentences.
CONJUNCTION is a combination of two words, two sets of words, or two sentences in one sentence.
Example:
1. Rama and Jyoti are studying in same convent.
2. Please give me either a pen or a pencil.
3. He is poor but he is honest.
In the above sentence, and, or, but are Conjunctions.
8. INTERJECTION:
An interjection is a word which expresses a strong or sudden feeling of surprise, joy, fear, sadness etc.,
Sudden or serious feelings in our minds - surprise, joy, fear, sadness - These words are all interjection. Usually we use exclamation (!) mark at the end of these words.
Example:
1. Oh! What an incident to take place!
2. Alas! What the poor girl will do now!
3. Ah! Hurrah! Well! Well!
Oh Alas! Ah! Hurrah! Well! These words are called interjections.
