Reduplicative Words.

Be Educated, Be Empowered.

Reduplicative words:

In our daily life we use many words to describe a scene or to convey our feelings with others in many ways. In addition to it we us some twin words which we won't seperate them in pronounciation too..
For example:.
  1. Ding-dong
  2. Hip-hop
  3. Super-duper
  4. Dilly-dally
  5. See-saw
  6. Bow-bow etc.,

Look at the words giving here. These are reduplicative words. Here we can categorise duplicate words into three types:
1. Duplicative
2. Alliterative
3. Rhyming

Let me explain these three types with examples:

1. Duplicative type: In this we can see the first part of the word repeats without any change.
For example:
  • aye-aye
  • Chuk chuk
  • Bang bang
  • Chop chop
  • Night night
  • Boo boo
  • Papa
  • Ha ha etc.,
2. Alliterative type:
In this we can see the two parts have the same consonants but different vowels.
For example:
  1. Hip hop
  2. Dilly-dally
  3. Chit chat
  4. Ping pong
  5. Zig zag
  6. See saw etc.,

3. Rhyming type:
In this time the second word starts with a different consonant but trying which is the first part.

For example:
  1. Super duper
  2. Helter skelter
  3. Easy peasy
  4. Itsy bitsy
  5. Nitty gritty etc;
Reduplicatives are used in a variety of ways. Some simply intimate sounds :
ding-dong
Bow-wow
Some suggest alternative moments:
Flip-flop
ping-pong
And some intensify meaning:
Teeny weeny (very small)
Tip top (very good)

We would answer some of the questions using reduplicative words:

1. What does the clock say? 🕰️ Tik tok
2. What does the school bell say?  🔔 Ding dong
3. How does the rain drop? 🌧️ Pit pat
4. How does the dog say? 🐕‍🦺 Bow-bow
5. How do you laugh? 😂 Ha ha.
